AFGHANISTAN
Afghanistan's rise in world cricket has been very quick. Superstar spinners like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi have turned heads towards Afghanistan cricket. The terror-struck country played their first ODI ever in April 2009 and became a part of the World Cup tournament just six years later.
The 2019 World Cup will be their second World Cup appearance. They played 6 matches in the 2015 World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. They lost 5 out of those against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and England. Their solitary win came against Scotland in a close encounter. Afghanistan chased down a target of 211 with 1 wicket remaining and 3 balls to spare. They are currently ranked 10th in ICC ODI Team ratings. Afghanistan's 2019 World Cup campaign begins from 1 June 2019 as they face Australia in Bristol.
